In problem 1 answer, b2 is not only not necessary but even a bad move because It’s a loss of a ko threat.

You refer to A4 instead of B2, I presume.
This allows White to capture the two stones.
And after that B2 is a ko threat for White.
I refer to the sequence B1 E1 A4.
Now i watch again and B2 will be a threat for white only (forgot he is dead. )
But still, yose is better if you play directly at E4 (Assuming white answered B1 with E1 ) instead of B2. If you play B2 and white realize that taking the 2 stones is not working and tenuki then white will have later the option to play E4 himself.
What i mean basically is that B2 is not needed, white is already short of liberty after B1 E1 exchange.
