Sometimes there is more than one solution. The book gave the “unfunny” solution. I stick by the book, but your “more fun” solution is correct too (as far as I can see).
In general, if there are more solutions to a puzzle, apparently one of them is considered as better than the other. I don’t know the motivation for why one solution is better than the other.
It could be number of moves used, style of go in the period that the puzzle was created, personal taste, etc. In case of older puzzles I often think it has to do with the elegance and/or subtlety of the move(s).
And please don’t ask me to define elegance and subtlety in this context.
