Hi, I’m confused about this problem (1.4 – Ko, “Connect your black stones”).
The solution tells me to play at this point:
But the intersection is surrounded by black stones on all 4 sides, so shouldn’t the move be illegal due to no liberties and no capture?
Could someone explain why this move is allowed, or what I’m missing in the position?

White can actually play there and capture the black stones on both sides, because the black stones are in atari (its not actually a ko in the picture, because black cannot re-capture after white plays there to capture the stones left and right side of it)
If the question was about the legality of black moving there: After the move black has only one chain with 8 liberties. Liberties are always counted for a chain, not an individual stone.
