So I was playing my frist match with my friend on the call in chrome, and i went out of chrome to check my bus, but suddenly I was unable to access the game anymore could I probably get the game access moved from this Ehrengast040560 gast acc to my main acc? I am the black pieces
I don’t see any game in your profile. Weird.
What is your main account you are mentioning?
I don’t think this is possible.
Your game is paused, BTW.
Not weird: it’s a private game.
If it’s a paused game, no need to end it and fork it. They can just unpause and resume playing.
I don’t know how guest accounts work. Perhaps it’s not possible to use a guest account anymore once you’ve disconnected?
I’m not a guest account expert either but I thought that to get an avatar like “Ehrengast…” You had to provide a password, and so you could find your running games later.
In short my idea was you must give name+pwd for playing and then email for being registered.
Guest accounts are created by the system if an unlogged user clicks on a game challenge link, so you don’t have to provide a password:
To get a regular account, you must give name and password but email is optional.
That still doesn’t tell if you need to create a password or not?
You don’t (I tested).
Ok. Thx for sharing the link to the announcement.
So the problem seems to be that if you are invited to play but later close the ongoing game and quit OGS you can’t come back?
That sounds pretty harsh, I wonder even why this is only the first time we hear about it (and why it hasn’t been anticipated)
As far as I can tell it works like this.
-
Opening a challenge link connects to OGS and if not already logged in the user has two options (two blue buttons) 1. log into an existing account (provide your name and pass) and play from that account or 2. Play as a guest (no pass or anything)
-
Once in the game as a guest, you can close the browser and come back later BUT this access is (I am reasonably confident, though not completely sure) only stored in a cookie. So you will be unable to switch from a phone to a PC for example, or use a different browser. Similarily if you used incognito mode, or have some security/cleanup software purging cookies you won’t be able to reconnect.
-
Also, if you THEN logged out of the guest account, then I do not see a way to re-establish.
-
Once the link is used, it is “spent”, and cannot be used again to re-establish connection. (This is possibly something to consider as an option? But I am afraid it might raise more problems than it solves).
The whole idea of a guest play seems to me to be mostly used for a quick game against someone who is unsure about playing Go, or playing on OGS, so to me the existing solution seems “good enough” for what it is… Or rather any other solution that would allow re-connecting to a guest account seems more complicated than creating an actual account.
The design might maybe be improved a bit though? I am not sure the challenge link is an obvious option to an unsuspecting user ![]()
Is this documented somewhere? Is there any kind of warning that if you close the guest session, you won’t be able to come back?
Like here, the time setting seems long (correspondence?) so you can’t expect that players will always keep their game open.
