Review Request - 15 kyu vs 13 kyu

I played black and lost no groups. However, my opponent still outplayed me and crushed me by more than 40 points.

I added a few variations in the game chat.

Look at this f8 f10 group you just made hexamex vs. berrayogi. Now look at the end of the game. How many points did that group help you make? How many stones did you invest in it? Now look at White’s big territories at the end of the game. How many white stones did white have there back on move 53?

Opening, Opening, Opening. The opening sets the stage for midgame. From this specific game, consider the two space base and the proverb “from 1, then 2; from 2, then 3”. That C13 stone on move 7 is so painful for the rest of the game.

This game had a lot of one space jumps when there were opportunities to be aggressive on the board. While the OSJ is “never a bad move”, being too close while the rest of the board is wide open is like searching for crumbs when there is still a lot of cake. Instead of R8 on move 29, consider R7 and R13. R7 would be more of an attack while R13 would prevent an invasion + build a moyo.

At move 37, there was an excellent moment for “hane at the head of two stones” (past issues lead to future problems!) missed for the OSJ instead.

Third, relating back to the opening, avoid playing second line moves so soon! If you are playing on the second line, you are either connecting your stones or preventing your opponent from connecting theirs. At move 35, instead of S10 consider R11. R11 is less over concentrated, keeps opponent’s group low, and has potential towards the center.

While there may be more to review, I believe these three things are great places to start.

Gotta make two space today
Do not auto OSJ
The second line is for second place
