A crazy idea that would have been a phone call that a person I’m writing to in particular could hear me talking to him. Maybe it’s worth it for the OGS administrators to do something that would be more convenient for the players to talk one-on-one like they have in KGS. Think about a chat that would be convenient for everyone.
Isn’t this a request for a zoom type of function so you can actually talk to opponents during a game? Not video, but live conversation facility.
That’s how I understand it anyway.
Ok then.
Not during a game, not within a game, but in a normal conversation in particular.
Let’s say I’m talking to Ali. I want him to be on my computer. I would call. There’s an incoming message.
I believe there used to be support for WebRTC audio (not for games, but for teaching). My understanding is it’s a bit hard to maintain such a feature - there are both technology and moderation challenges. Though I agree, it would be a nice feature.
You might try using Discord as a workaround - it’s very common to add calling features to any game this way!
If you ever go into KGS, you’re talking to a specific person, and there’s a message coming in. In my opinion, we have to do this in FXO.
When you say “talking”, do you mean a text message or a voice message? As far as I know there is no voice chat on KGS.
If you can log into KGS to talk, write to someone privately and wait for them to answer, but in the meantime, you play until you hear their message.
Let me talk to you sometime. I’ll give you my details. You’re my servant there.
Not completely true as there is voice for teachers accounts but ok it’s quite specific
Wait, is the feature request just that there will be some audible notification for chat messages? I’m not sure i understand
That’s what I also thought, and as I am a strong ADHD case I’d welcome such a feature.
A stupid idea to put a private message noise so that even if someone did something else they would know there was a message on the site and they would have time to write it back to him.
I dont think it’s a stupid idea, and it’s much easier to add than VoIP
In KGS, when one receives a chat message, there is a “ringing” sound (like a classic telephone ringing)
So one can hear it even if one doesn’t see it or is playing or watching a game in a different window (the chats don’t appear in the same window as the games on KGS)
I agree, it’d possibly be really useful to have audio as a notification here, for example if someone messages asking for a game or review one may not see the message for some hours if not doing something actively on OGS or looking at the window.
(though maybe the same as KGS, with option to enable or disable ? I leave OGS open often, so it may be connected when we sleep, for example – then the sound would be useful to disable)
I’d be happy if there was one like this on OGS too because people reply to me or anyone there late in a private message.
I support some kind of audio notification for chat messages too. It’s hard to notice that the person you are talking to has replied. Usually I close the chat bubble and wait for it to come out again, but if the person does not reply I will also forget about it after a while.
