Sometimes I see an AI suggested move that seems to lose a stone and not accomplish anything. Such as this:
This is the AI suggested progression. What’s the point of J12, it seems like a wasted move? I’m a struggling 19k.

Most of the time it’s an asking move. White answered at 2 so it makes J10 a confirmed sente for black which helps in the centre area. If white extended at H11, then black M12 is sente yose.
I don’t think this is something you should worry about at your level. Try to understand all the basics first and come back to this kind of advanced techniques again later.
