Why does the score indicator only work on multi-day games and not on shorter games, from 5 min to 30 min games lets say–is there a way to turn it on in those shorter games?
Do not worry about it. Do not look at the score estimator.
The score estimator is only useful for those playing at a more advanced level of the game. At the moment it will only harm you if you use it.

Harm what harm could it do me? The way I play – I just think if it is offered to players in multi-day games, why isn’t it offered to players of less than a day – that’s the question being asked --but thanks for the input
Because the score estimator button has confused you many times in the past. You have been under the impression that it shows you things that it does not.
You have come to the forum seeking sage advice from people who play the game, and we are all begging you not to look at the score estimator at all. Forget it exists.
This is one of the most important pieces of advice we have to give you, which is why it has been given repeatedly:
It is difficult for us to find a way to explain, in a way that you can understand, why it is harmful. Because of this you will just have to take our word for it.

then if it is a waste of time then stop it---- though even others may learn from my misfortune here, don’t you think that in itself is worth it to the others who read your comments and learn something? Mind,you just a thought of course
Not really. It’s a wonderful reflection of the type of most people here - willing to give the benefit of the doubt and invest effort in helping people who ask for help to play Go.
Where the overall response could be cynical, and conclude “troll” (an obvious reaction), instead most people note the risk but help anyway. I like that.

And that all here are not naysayers, there are people here who understand the game is played by many in many different ways and not a strict set of how to play – thank you to all that help with a cheerful response and encouragement instead of brow-beating all the time
