Just going to assume you mean America, but OGS actually has users from all over the world, and lots of places have an East Coast
Yeah, I almost said America/Boston-ish area too but figured my writing style would give that away pretty quickly
I could be wrong, but I think @MrAlex lives in England
I’ve got a Sony Xperia Z5 compact
Uhm, not sure how to get in a game with 3 lines (how to get/see “extra time”?). Feel free to invite me to an (unrated ) game
Thanks for offering to help. Any 'ol byo-yomi timer will do, such as the default one when you do an auto-match. I’ll try to set up a challenge, but please be aware that there is no way to accept it through the app (yet).
Edit: Errr… as soon as I find how I can do that, it seems there is no way to go from your forum profile to your OGS profile (?)
Indeed there is no direct link, for some strange reason, but usually the name matches, so I suspect this might be his profile?
Thanks, but how did you find him? I tried doing a search for his name, but couldn’t find an option for that either…
Wow… that’s a well-hidden feature thanks, I’ll perhaps reverse engineer that search and put it in the app…
Yes haha the elusiveness of the search function has been the topic of much discussion here, believe it or not that’s the improved version lol
I believe it was previously just an empty text box with an underline without the magnifying glass or the word “search”
We need to start the game though or no timer is going to show Don’t worry it’s unrated and I’m not very good at go anyway (although I’ve been getting better with all the testing I’ve been doing lately).
Hi @MrAlex, Is this the place to mention bugs in the app? As you know I love it and these things are hardly critical but:
I’m playing a game where the time limit is per move so the non-playing colour has no time displayed on the website. In the app it’s just always 0.0s so the game is always at the top of the list although when my opponent plays I’ll have 2 days time left. Would it be possible to use the time per move setting on such games?
The other things that was very random was that two tournament games timed out without the first move being played. On the completed games list one correctly said Won by Timeout and the other (wrongly) said Lost by Timeout and I nearly had a heart attack! It corrected when I opened it but it did give me a shock!
Sorry if this is not the place for this
It sure is!
New version alpha_b165
should be available in a few minutes. Main improvements:
- new game searching (automatch) interface that allows you to browse the app while waiting for an opponent. Live and Blitz searches are still cancelled when going out of the app (OGS limitation) but correspondence games can be searched for while outside of the app. You can also search for several correspondence games at once but only one live or blitz game searc at a time is allowed.
- ability to challenge online bots. Since the API is similar, this is a preliminary step to the ability to challenge real players.
- ability to see, accept and reject incoming challenges
- ability to abort games before the second move
- KO moves are now disallowed before submitting to server. KOs are also detected and disallowed on analysis mode as well.
- updated the score estimator to the latest version.
- Analysis is now disabled if the game creator requested it (fix contributed by https://github.com/popz73 - sorry don’t know his OGS username)
Please let me know if there is anything funky with the new release as there were a lot of changes in the core parts of the application.
Hi, MrAlex. I signed in as tester for your app (so far looking great, by the way, if such a superficial comment is welcome).
Is there an official channel to communicate with you as a developer, or do you just use this forum thread? Maybe it would be a good idea to have a different thread exclusively for that topic, since this one is a more general, and useful information could end up getting drowned a bit.
Hi @Leira thank you for trying the app. I mainly keep an eye out for comments in this thread, but some pople have taken to posting issues and features requests on the project’s Github repo: https://github.com/acristescu/OnlineGo/issues As for having a dedicated thread this has been discussed in the past but I feel that the app needs to be in a better shape before raising awareness about it… although I have to admit there aren’t so many issues or big missing features in the recent builds (it used to crash a lot).
New build, alpha_b167
coming your way. There are a few minor bugfixes but I also improved the logging since I am getting a lot of HTTP 403 (unathorised) errors that i cannot make sense of.
I also cleaned up the typography a lot since it was all over the place (I decided to stick with the Roboto font in the end).
Hello again!
Back from my holidays where I could update! Your app is getting really awesome so I come with a few new more user comments:
Log out is fine and nice to find. A tick to keep name/password would make it even better. Or at least put it as the default setting, as the app is for mostly personal devices.
Grouping the in-game chats is another nice new functionality for me, although I didn’t understand how to navigate from the chat up button to each game involved. I hope these are not too disconnected. Maybe I just didn’t get well how it works?
A small improvement (if you have still some time to waste for us, nothing big): when you want to cancel the “playing the move” stage, instead of clicking the cross, sliding to the outside the board with the stone (far enough like down) could make the trick too.
A bigger more useful implement would be the conditional moves, which is quite relevant for OGS with so many slow games players. But again maybe I missed it somewhere?
Last just for mention, after the upload I got all the remaining time to play in seconds… But went to be fine after.
Thanks a lot for your work which is quite successful
