The “Show real name publicly on your profile page” selection box is completely redundant. If people want to show realname they can fill it in and if they don’t want to show it they will not fill it.
This box might be a workaround for current authentication thing. I remember that it seemed to copy that realname from social authentications everytime you logged in.
I hope in the future there is no need for this.
