starting week three of my journey into go

i have started week three of my journey into playing go, and its very trying at times, that’s for sure, the game is not as simple as i was told before i started. There are too many rules to remember or what to do’s, if your opponent does this or that, you do this or that too many names to remember, but i am trying to understand. This week i lost as many games as i have in other weeks but the disappointment is less with each loss - getting some advice from other kind opponents, which is great, so the goal is to try and stay as long as i can till they score 40 % or more. forgetting about trying to get stones and just trying to make shapes and eyes when i can.------ Anyone can send me a 3 day or up game i love to try to stay in the game as long as i can and listen to your advice after each move

I’m sure you don’t really care about the nuance here, but…

… what people say is that the rules are simple ( * ).

The resulting game is one of the most complex there is. Which is part of the fascination. How does such a complex and challenging game arise from such simple rules.

The rules are like “To play the game, place a stone on an intersection, alternating between colours. If a connected group of stones has no liberties, remove them”.

The game is like “what to do’s, if your opponent does this or that, you do this or that”. These aren’t rules, this is just “advice how not to lose so quickly”

( * ) Rules nerds can point out that there is complexity in the rule-sets as well, but in principle the rules are simple.

I left a few variations on your game.

I think you could’ve won this one.
I’d like to hear why you played what you played.
