StoneBase - ChessBase-style desktop app for reviewing and analyzing Go games (beta)

Hi everyone!

I’m the developer of StoneBase, and I’d like to share it with the community and post updates here as the project evolves.

What is StoneBase?

StoneBase is a desktop application for reviewing and analyzing Go games. Think of it as a ChessBase-style tool for Go. You can import your SGF files, analyze them with KataGo, and build a searchable game library.
Everything runs locally on your machine, so your data stays private.

Key Features

  • :bullseye: Position search: Place stones on the board and find every game in your library that reached that position (exact and similar matches)
  • :books: Game library: Import thousands of SGFs, filter by player/date/result, and detect duplicates
  • :robot: KataGo analysis integration
  • :laptop: Available for Windows, macOS, and Linux

Current Status

StoneBase is currently in beta. Basic features are free to use. If you’d like to try out the pro features, drop a comment or send me a message and I’ll send you a beta key.

I’d love to hear your feedback. What works, what doesn’t, and what you’d like to see next.

I would like to give this a try. The package has some dependencies related to “ALSA” that are apparently too challenging for me (not necessarily for someone else) to install in five minutes. I’ll circle back later…

Thanks a lot!
I just sent you a beta key by PM.
The ALSA dependency is probably because I recently added board stone sounds to the application.
Let me know if you need some help to install it. I can try to package it differently if a .deb does not work for you

looks promising, I can do beta testing if it doesn’t require me running katago locally, cause my hardware not good hehe

KataGo usage is optional. So you can use it to analyze without it or search games.
I sent you a beta key by PM.

Enjoy it!

Hi,

I just wanted to provide an update. Since we started the beta we’ve added the following new functionalities:

  • OGS Integration: Import your OGS games directly into StoneBase

  • Board & Stone Styles: Choose between different board themes and stone styles

You can find more information about these new functionalities in our blog:

We are still accepting beta testers. Feel free to request a key if you are interested!

Hi,

We keep adding more functionalities to StoneBase.
From our last release (1.0.43) you can now import AEB database directly from StoneBase.

Enjoy more than 90.000 games with position search to improve your analysis!

Sounds interesting, will give a try.
EDITED:
Talked too fast. Only deb file and no sources to build.

Yes, application is not open source, but it has a free tier and a pro tier. Although currently we are in beta phase and you can use all features for free during the beta.

If you release an AppImage maybe I can five a try. Meanwhile (I’m on arch linux) I don’t have the time to put my efforts in creating a package and fight with it, sorry.

Done, AppImage ready  in last release. Thanks for the feedback about it.
If you are interested in joining the beta let me know and I’ll send you a beta key.
