Suggestion: Relative Rank Range instead of Absolute Values

The new play page is a great improvement, I think the rank range selection could be simplified further. Currently, we have to manually input specific ranks (e.g., 10k to 3k) which requires constant adjustment as our rank changes and mental calculation to figure out appropriate ranges.

It would be more intuitive to have a relative rank range, where you simply choose how many ranks above and below your current rank you want to play with (like ±3 ranks).

This would:

  1. Keep settings consistent even when you rank up or down
  2. Remove the need to calculate specific rank ranges
  3. Be more intuitive for all players

I think it’d be even better to have this setting tucked away in the gearing wheel menu (like it previously was).

  • The simpler the play page, the better - especially for new players.
  • As a bonus, having it slightly hidden would probably speed up game searching since fewer people would fiddle with it.

Either way, having the rank range relative to your own rank makes way more sense for everyone.

This is already how it works, it is a rank range and it does move up and down with you. Just currently the range shows the upper and lower bound ranks, rather than their relative distance to you. But that’s only their display, not their function.

Some people prefer to play with ranks hidden

Yeah that’s been reported and I believe it’s being looked at

Then I’m a perfect example of this being confusing. Which only supports my suggestion that displaying it as ±N ranks would be more intuitive and clearer to users

I also assumed it was absolute, because that’s what the UI indicates. I think ±n would be clearer communication
