During games. and in particular review/demo games the right side of the board is completel clogged with chat, the tree, comments on variations etc. but the right side is hardly used.
What about auto-hiding the normal options bar on the left (maybe add little arrows to the collapse and uncollapse button for clarity) and replace that space with a vertical tree.
This will free up a lot of space I think
The amount of space available on the left after hiding the main menu is dependent of the screen/window size. It doesn’t always leave empty space. I agree that the right side is a bit cluttered in demo/broadcast games. It’s really difficult to make the UI work well for all screen/window sizes. It would help if people could individually hide the gametree, “move comments”, control buttons and even the player boxes. Then entering analyze mode the gametree and the controls would become visible(if already manually hidden). If people only want to spectate demo/broadcasts games then that kind of thing would let them maximize the chat size.
