I know OGS isn’t an app, but many of us play on mobile. Adding swipe gestures to both sides would really help us navigate back and forth in a game.

Swiping from the left edge to the right means “going back a page” on both iOS and Android if gestures are enabled.
This behavior can be modified, but only if the OS allows it, for specific behaviors, like page back in a browser. It doesn’t allow any random behavior to overrule.
On top of that “overscroll” behavior is inconsistent between mobile browsers.
My take is that this is either impossible, or will work only for 25-50% of the users.
Gestures that don’t start at the edges can work though.
