One more choice is K3 See @gennan suggestion , please write a post down if you chose this move. Thanks.
Time to chose, more discussion always welcome.
I think B16 and D15 are fairly similar, and I have no idea which one is better. However my inner bias pushes me towards prefering D15, as it involves potential Kos and makes the situation fairly complicated and interesting ^^
I don’t agree on similarity. It involves ko or not, eye in the corner or not, aji of cut at E13 or not…
All these considering sente or not.
It’s a rather difficult choice for me too. But the ko would be in black favours, the gain being more against the outside aji. Finally I prefer the straight forward B16, keeping the pressure at best.
Myself the black move I have hard time to digest as white is G5
I feel that if white keeps responding on the left, black gets to simplify the game. So I feel that white should complicate the game to have a chance of winning.
I feel it’s not really neccessary to respond to black in the upper left at the moment (if white tenukies and black continues with a capture at B16, white can tenuki again). So maybe now is as good a time as any to take sente with white.
So I’d like to propose white K3.
Bien.
K3 is one more choice to consider for everyone.
If you elect this move, just write it in an answer here, but please keep voting one move only.
Black A16 appears to be the “default” move which first has to be refuted if we’re to consider other plays.
I worry that if black plays A16 now, white will tenuki to keep the option of white B10 in sente.
So I would like to play at B10 with black to try and settle this group in sente, aiming at playing K6 next to secure a 50-60 point territory on the lower side (that feels like a tedomari to me)
If Black plays B10, and White blocks with B9 - and at some point later White plays A16 to block on the other side - isn’t there a possibility that Black will run out of eyespace and lose that whole upper right group?
It doesn’t seem like it’s unconditionally alive with B10 - or is it?
I have an alternative move for black - C8, if black really want to shake thing up on the left side.
White can tenuki even if black plays A16, but this way black has a stone difficult to kill right behind, threatening to kill all the white stones below forming a giant lower-left corner and has lots of aji in the future.
If white plays A16, black can then play B10, and white cannot answer with B9. If white plays B10, black can then go back to play A16 to make an eye on the upper left. And when white play C18, black can play E8 and threaten an exchange of the lower left, where the black group on the side can still ko to live or escape through the gap between D13 and E10.
Black will respond to white B9: C11 is the simplest continuation, but I think black even has other options, such as E11 or C9.
If black were behind, then I like the idea of complicating the game like that. But I feel that black has a comfortable game if he just settles this group, preferrably in sente so black can secure the lower side.
Counting the upper side as so much secure territory for white feels too optimistic to me, especially as it is black’s turn after your variation.
I agree. Black’s area would be more secure than White’s area. But White would stand better even if you knock 20 points off of the count, factoring in komi.
He he what an interesting debate. Well I just come in to remind everyone to not forget finally to suggest your move!
But I don’t want to interrupt, please proceed.
