Well, as you said - there is optimal, and there is mistake. Certainly which corner stone you place changes the game, but there is still a decision point for White to allow a cross opening or not, and a decision point for Black in whether to take it or not, and one player is still wrong about whether the path they chose is optimal for them. Or am I missing something?
