Which one down below is the most annoying to deal with?
Classic Fox style; Only cares about territory and always invades.
Defensive style; Only builds territory, but still wins. Always care about endgame.
Aggressive style; Somehow they always find your weak points and either kills you or gain bazillions of territory.
Influence-building style; Builds a huge influence and wins the game.
The know-it-all Joseki style; Knows every Joseki in the books and crushes you in Opening. Any other styles that you hate going against that aren’t on the list?
I agree. But asking for what style to dislike with an enumeration of legitimate options. It looks for me as a call to discrimination. I just want the GO community to be more empathetic. It is just my opinion. I do not judge OP in anyway.
Why should we need discuss annoying playstyles? May be better to discuss styles that we like? It is same kind of discussion. But in more pleasant way I think.
I took “dislike” as “I’m bad at handling games against that kind of style”. It’s not a criticism of my opponent but a judgment of my own playing skill.
The overplay style: the style where the player can’t stand what you should be able to do and will always try to refute it even if it’s overplaying. The sanction exists but it’s not proven you can reach it.
Not really a playstyle, but a way of playing: the ultra-blitz style.
Opponent who answers every move within seconds, making the pace of the game faster than i feel comfortable with. I never have the time to read, count, or use the bathroom while their clock is running, because its always my turn. They never have any issues or stress due their clock beeping and urging them to play, they always have plenty of main time (or sometimes with fischer, they have more than the original main time on their clock), while i’m the one who has to play with constant timepressure from the early midgame onwards.
It also has the mental effect of making me think that i’m just worse player than they are. I start thinking stuff like “Have they really read this out much faster than me? Did i misread something because my opponent seems so prepared for this fight? Are they so happy with this outcome that they are eager to play it out? Does that mean that the outcome of this won’t be very good for me?”
the only style that is disturbing to play against for me is playing random stones in the opening, because it makes me think they’re a sandbagger by self sabotaging the opening (ed. which tends get in my head).. other than that, one of my central core beliefs is; one of the most wonderful things about go is you have the option to play wherever you like ^^,
Any playstyle has its weaknesses that you may exploit for your own benefit, so I don’t dislike any of them. The variety of playstyles makes the game more interesting.
I’m surprised that no one has pointed out the irony of this poll. If people answer honestly, then the results will encourage more use of the playstyles that are most disliked. Indeed, someone might use it as a guide for playing against you. It’s an interesting poll, but self-defeating.
I believe this is a major reason many people dislike playing against bots. It certainly is for me.
It is surprising for me that nobody mention mirror go. I like play mirror sometimes. It’s nice to see that this doesn’t irritate anyone to the extreme
Thats part of it, at least for me, but also the lack of real opponent >___>
Like, i enjoy go more when i’m playing with somebody who actually also wants to win the game, not with some bot that only plays because it is programmed to do so, without any underlying desire to win xD
I think we can doubleplus unlike any sort of playing style without it being a personal attack on the person who plays it.
The post says “annoying play style” & “style you hate going against” hardly offensive.
I don’t mind. If it’s a style I don’t know how to handle then I need practice. That said, the poll was anonymous, only percentages are shown, not who voted for what.
Yeah, but are we important enough to get scouted like that? I highly doubt that considering that a miniscule fraction of the OGS playerbase even knows that this forum exists, let alone visit it, let alone post in it and then pro-actively seek such a poll to scout a specific forum user that might be their potential opponent.
And if we are important enough to get scouted, why wouldn’t we give the opposite answer and declare our “favorite playstyle to play against” as our most hater, in order to confuse the opponent’s scouting?
It is a win-win choice.
If you do get scouted then you have given the opposite information.
If not, then who cares if you gave the opposite answer in a random poll?
