Through the Years: Long Correspondence

In MooToYou’s game, Black (imsimple) just took a stone with (1) X.

It only loses one or two points from the AI, but the timing seems very strange to me.

I’d rather proceed like this:

A pretty haengma that could have occurred in Carlist’s game.

As a proponent of archival, I think it’d be a rather nice idea to, after the end of the first round, collect at least some of the finished games as printable kifu into some kind of PDF book.

eg, with the format

Carlist Rieekan – Snowonthetop
B+R
Completed 2021-07-06
ID 25095697
[black and white printable kifu]

Most likely it’d be best to only store those games in which both players qualified for the second round.
If that’s less than a thousand then one could start to apply other filters, eg. only games in which one or both players won at least half of their games in the round.

It may be the case, ofc, that at some point in the next few years a large-scale database file of OGS games will be released (as has been requested before). That’d reduce the incentive for specific archival.

  • 675 games left
  • 24 games completed
  • 4 players disqualified, 1 resigned
  • 13 players completed all of their games

75 ganes are paused.
8 because of a player that paused the game.
67 because of vacation.

I just noticed that there are 944 annuled games.

  • 8 with wrong score
  • 722 ended by timeout
  • 214 ended by resignation

It’s clear how a wrong score could imply annulment.
But why resignations and timeouts?

Timeouts are consecutive timeouts and resignations are resignation at less than two moves, probably.

Are they not (also?) timeouts with fewer than 2 moves?

About annuled games…

68 resigned on day 0
77 resigned on day 1
17 resigned on day 2
480 timeout on day 3
About 200 timeouts on day 38-41

I assume these are all games with 0 or 1 move.
It’s about 840 games.

What about the rest?

Look at the top group.
ShioRamen, Uri-ChoRong: all games annuled
Also these games:

There could be more: I didn’t check them all.

Player Stardusty did pass in some games, which confused me because those were games with just one stone on the board but weren’t annuled.

This must be the longest game with just one move within the tournament: 86 days!

Probably, I would assume, some top players need to cheat less.

Now I have details for each game.
I made the same chart but excluding timeouts and annuled games.
Here it is (data on june 7th):

It’s a small difference but here it is:

The bot suggests that SpaceInvader–hissao was remarkably even for a kyu game.

There was, though, this big mutual blunder concerning the marked stones:

Only one game was finished since the last time

Here’s one of the unfinished games, although maybe someone should resign.

In the game, White (sethwildebuggy) just played (1) at (5), a slack-looking move.

I think he had concerns that he might get tricked in this line.

Unfortunately, he left this sort of aji in his position:
