Tournament No-Vacation Setting

Apologies if this has been brought up before. I did a cursory search but only found this from 2017, which I would like to follow up on.

A common policy in correspondence tournaments (and a common source of tension and confusion) is no vacations allowed, to maintain pace of play. But to my understanding, enforcement of this rule can only be done manually by the tournament director.

@gbohus suggests in the Beat The Kyu Be A Dan 2026 tournament chat that perhaps tournaments can have an opt-in setting to be exempt from vacation, similar to the current Pause on Weekends setting. Then even if a user chooses to go on vacation, their timer will still tick down in this tournament’s games. This is a happy middle ground between the pace of play demand of the tournament and allowing individual users to still go on vacation and pause their other games.

I’m not sure how the web architecture works for this site, so I can’t speak to the feasibility of this. But I would like to get feedback from the community on this issue so we can decide if it is a good thing to add.

A good idea that I recall discussing here on the forums far more recently than 2017.
