The past few days, I’ve been working on translating the website. To make sure I like all the translations in use, or to be able to update some to a more modern phrasing, I’ve put the site in my native language (Dutch).
Even though the translations are 100% completed, I still see some untranslated elements, that are also not appearing on the translation page. These are, the game status, which is also reflected in the website/tab/page title, and the tiny “Move X” in the chat that denotes when certain chat messages occurred.
Are these translations simply not yet added to the translation website, are there technical reasons not to include them, or are they not showing up for translation for some other reason? I’d be happy to help on these translations!
@benjito This list of phrases seems to be missing in its entirety from the translation overview If I search for any of them, I can’t find them. Even the first one, “Your move” is missing.
Could it be some sort of parsing issue? Or that they are somehow not discovered by the translation platform? The most recent change around the phrases is from a year ago. Even these separate extra lines are missing.
So it looks to me as if this entire file somehow gets excluded from translate.online-go.com.
It is not all game status messages: I see for instance “Undo Requested” does get translated properly. (It doesn’t show up in the title of the tab, but that is fine.)
I don’t think it matters much in practice, but this definitely seems like a Feedback > Bug report post
Also, issues on GitHub get a little more visibility with the development team. Not a requirement that you post there, just wanted to share: GitHub · Where software is built
The same happens to me in another language, it is 100% translated, and those elements do not appear to be translated. But also I have found other examples of untranslated text.
In Play > Create a custom game, the “Time control” is not translated, except the option “None”. In Pootle that text chain has the location: components/TimeControl/util.ts:155 components/TimeControl/util.ts:203 components/TimeControl/util.ts:343 components/TimeControl/util.ts:395 …
In the same place as before, the time amounts are without translation, except the hours, which appear in the translation page as “%s hours” with the location: components/TimeControl/util.ts:134 components/TimeControl/util.ts:144 views/AnnouncementCenter/AnnouncementCenter.tsx:194
Inside a game, if you go to Game information, the text describing the “Time control” is also untranslated.
The date for the chat messages in a game.
In Community > About, the bottom text about the time and the weekend is only half translated. In the translation page you can only find the chain “Server Time: {{time}}”, so the “Server Time” is translated, but not the contents of “{{time}}”. The same happens for “Weekend ends {{time_from_now}}”. Both of those chains have the location: components/ServerTimeDisplay/ServerTimeDisplay.
I uploaded the bug to Github and they patched it. Now most of the untranslated text appears translated. Many of the texts I noticed were nowhere to be found on Pootle and now it does appear, and with a translation already made. So there must have been some error that made those strings be invisible but not erased.
