the last 15 or so 19x19 and 13x13 multi day games i have started i have tried to abandon my reg 130 move sand 230 moves goals and instead have tried to just play in my opponent’s spots as instructed by the score indicator on the side of the game trying to keep the score form going past 100points behind in 19x19 and 65 to 80 in 13x 13 games – will try this new system of measment of my game for a while see if i can advance play just using the score indicator to tell me were to place my stones - maybe it will work maybe it won’t – but will give it the collage try – woppydoddle----- i didn’t go to collage or universty thats right wasn’t smart enough----will give it -say-- the hard knock of life try – i guess
It will no doubt be fun to do this for a bit - it’s great to have a plan to act on, with results you know you can measure.
That said, this will be much like trying to learn to drive by watching the GPS map screen in your car instead of looking out the window ahead.
The score-estimator is certainly not telling you where to place your stones, any more than the little arrow in the GPS map in your car is telling you which way to turn right now.
So it seems very likely that you will absorb as much about “how to play Go” by trying to use the score estimator as you would about leaning to drive by focussing on GPS.
I wonder if you have looked at the “Learn To Play” section recently?
It’s had lots of work done on it, and is pretty good.
If you can do all the stuff in there, that’d be great investment that actually would improve knowing where to play and why.
And if you can’t see the answer to any lesson in there, it’s something solid to ask about.
It does not instruct this. It would be better for your development as a go player if you never looked at the score estimator again.
Good luck with that. Hopefully it will provide enjoyment.
Anything to avoid completing “Learn To Play”?
This is a nasty habit of mine, as is using the analysis to play out long variations. something i would never be able to do over the board.
well all this well meaning helpful posts are hearting to me --since as you people - weel most of you people here in the forums point out iam going about this all wrong --and should just study the lessons provided here and just aimlessly follow “verum dixit” or maybe even “sequere ducem”- but such is not my way - will still document my trials and failures here as best i can–till i can find something works —for me
I would suggest to try 5x5 board.
1.) https://online-go.com/play
2.)
3.)
4.)
5.)
play as black only
6.)
start on tengen (center)
anyone who understand basic Go rules can easily win after that
its always possible to capture every single white stone in that position
when you will learn how to capture all white stones, you will be ready for bigger board.
You do you @dokbohm. Hope you enjoy the experiment.
Don’t expect much sympathy when you complain that it didn’t work out.
It’s like you’re trying to learn to read by staring at letters on a page and expecting them to eventually make sense if you just stare longer.
Put down the paper.
learn the sounds of each letter, then learn to make syllables. Step by step with the basics.
You’re trying to reinvent the wheel.
- Stop touching the “estimate score” button
- Learn the rules to the game of Go
That’s pretty much it for now. If you actually did those, especially the second one, you’d improve and have more fun.
You’ve logged over 1100 ranked games on this site without knowing the most basic rules of the game.
5x5 board you say hummm never played one of those before --might try that just to see thanks fir the advice
