Unable to Make a Move After Opponent Requested Undo (Beat the Kyu & Be a Dan Tournament)

Hi there,

I’m currently playing a game in the Beat the Kyu & Be a Dan tournament, and I’ve run into an issue.

During the game, my opponent requested an undo after realizing the position following my moves. I chose not to accept the undo, as I played my moves intentionally to test their reading. However, I’m now stuck because the only options available to me are “Accept Undo” or “Resign.” I’m unable to place a stone on the board or continue the game.

This issue is happening both on the website and on the app, and it only affects this particular game.

I contacted a moderator, and they mentioned it may be a bug and advised me to report it here. I’ve currently paused the game while waiting for assistance.

Could you please help resolve this issue so the game can continue normally?

Thank you in advance for your help.

It’s this game is it.

Maybe @GreenAsJade or @anoek have some ideas?

Has anyone else seen something like this?

I wonder if something like that happened there:

Seems likely… so was there any resolution for it?

Currently, I have paused the game. I am unable to click a stone on the board and the only options I get is resign or accept undo request…

It looks to me like you’re unable to make a move because it’s not your turn.

That could be because they asked for an undo… It was white’s turn and they asked for an undo which means it will undo two moves.. black at E8 and white at C8 and it will be back to their turn… so basically if I accept undo white has to play next… so it doesn’t seem weird to me… also if it’s not my turn why am I getting the accept undo option… i shouldn’t be getting it as in the other games when its not my turn I only see undo and resign -

It’s White’s turn. Anyone can pause, unpause, or resign at any time, and of course you have the option to accept the undo since the other player requested it. The unfortunate thing here is that OGS gives no indication at all of whose turn it is (you don’t even get to find it in analysis like I did since that’s disabled for the players).

One undo symbol: it’s your turn.
Two undo symbols: it’s their turn.

I think everyone sees the same symbols.

… But yes, that’s right if you know the other player requested the undo!

There’s the most subtle css border glow on the player cards.

You really only notice it when it’s changing fast.

Blacks turn

Whites turn

Normally there’s also this below the game board

It looks like that goes away when an undo is requested.

so, real bug exists after all:

normal paused game looks like that:

but game with undo request looks like this:

text of who to move disappears

also, there is usually the last move indicator on 1 last stone

but here both stones are identical

so, last move indicator literally disappears

in both games:

Analysis and conditional moves disabled

so someone who plays without it usually don’t press arrow buttons and unlikely to think about this list of moves:

@Eugene , that is why everyone is confused and everyone can timeout !!!

@square.defender - Thank you so much for all the details you got into… I appreciate the help… I am playing on the platform after a long time so definitely wouldn’t have been able to point these things out…

I was okay to accept the undo at one point so that the game could move forward but that won’t help get this bug resolved… hope the developers will look into it soon :crossed_fingers:

Since there’s probably nothing preventing this game from continuing, and pauses are not allowed in the tournament, I suggest unpausing and waiting for him to move. You might want to post in the chat that you are not accepting the undo.

But how does that resolve the bug? And if I post on chat that I am not accepting the undo then he might just let it go to timeout…
