White move at A always would be absolutely useless self atari?
It never would be good idea, isn’t it?
But I think scenario where it may be useful is possible.
Imagine player that always do triangle opening, always in that order:
and only then start to think.
Game starts, his opponent plays as black and already knows how white would play.
To punish white, black plays like that:
Should white play differently this time? Or is it better to follow the algorithm anyway?
if white plays at A, black will capture it
and score would be
But if white will do good move instead, black will not use that punishment again in next games.
and score would be
So, white will have better winrate if will continue placing self atari stone at A.
