Visual bug for handicap selection on "Play" page

When on a phone’s browser on the Play page and making selections for what game you want to play, the handicap-type selection’s third option is obstructed by the big “Play against a Human” button and cannot be selected.

You now need to switch the page to desktop mode to even be able to see/select it.

This image should explain it. I was fully scrolled to the bottom and could not make it visible.

I really love this new design of this page though! Really well designed! (“New” in quotes as I have no idea how long it has been around by now, but it is such an improvement from the old design.)

This is very odd, because for me the handicap menu selection pops up above the clicky thing:

Of course, you have a screenshot, so it’s real… what phone and browser?

@martin3141 is heroically working in this area, he may be able to help resolve it.

I see this too. Try scrolling all the way to the bottom with custom games disabled. Example using Chrome tools:

Same for me FWIW

My guess is that the code that decides whether to populate the menu up or down is seeing the bottom of the screen as “available” rather than the top of the button.

Isn’t the play page a different component? Maybe I underestimate how much this includes …

Nah, you’re right. But they are in the same area

Why can’t you (who can create this problem) scroll down?

Scrolling down is not possible if you hide custom games.

Got it, thanks!

The obvious solution is to not allow hiding custom games

I’m kind of warm to this, even though you were joking.

For example, when you start a quick-match correspondence game, it tells you “you can see your match in the custom games list below” … which you can’t if you don’t have that open.

Why do we not just show it? :face_with_monocle:

Or should we force it open if you start a quick-match correspondence game? :face_with_monocle:

FIFY

I’m not really joking. I don’t get why we’re hiding good stuff behind a button when it could more easily just be on the page.

Actually the better solution is not to allow disabling handicaps in quick match :joy:

The change for making it work as intended is on its way, heading for Production some time soon (thanks @martin3141 for working out what needed to be done).

Actually clicked the link to double check you didn’t just remove the hide button :heart:

New to the dev side of OGS. What is the production cycle/process? Anything fixed or more a “there’s a bunch of fixes so time for a new version”?

More like, push to beta server first and hope really hard we see any breaking changes there before they affect all of prod.

Usually it’s pretty quick unless there’s a big scary change in the pipeline
