What counts as blitz

Hi

I’m a bit confused as to where blitz and live games cross over, I understand that under 20secs a move is blitz but…what does this mean the way the games are organised on OGS i.e. in the diagram below are the middle options i.e. 25 minutes counted as blitz or live? Thank you

Middle option is “live”.

I don’t know if it’s still the case, but at one point creating a game called Blitz in the OGS interface with a 10s byo-yomi didn’t actually count as blitz for the ratings breakdown as that used byo-yomi <10s rather than <=10s as the definition.

Hi. I’m new to the whole Go scene. I come from the Chess world where there are also blitz and rapid games etc. In Chess the destinctions are in how long the entire game is expected to last (inclusive of bonus time allotments per move). To compute an estimated game time an average of 40 moves for a completed Chess game is used (this average no is needed to compute the total time added for “per move” bonuses). Is it similar in Go?

When I was setting up a game against the computer and entering Game Speed and Time in Custom Settings I noticed that the Time Control settings (Byo-Yomi, Fischer etc) affects variables like Main Time for Byo-Yomi and Max Time for Fischer Time Control etc. So Game Speed is a function of the Time Control scheme chosen. I am sure someone must have a table that shows the total estimated playing time depending on Game Speed (Blitz, Rapid, Live) and the Time Control system chosen? In Chess it’s quite clear Blitz are games lasting over 3min but under 10min and Rapid games are 10min and longer.

It’s not consistent on this site: the same game may be counted as blitz in one place and as live in other place. Places: /play page, game history in profile, rank graph in profile.

That’s pretty confusing!.
