What is the essence of playing

Hi,

I enjoy playing Go. Yet I want to know why I do so.

Because it is nice to decide a superior player?
Then why do we mostly search for equally strong players to play with?
and what’s the point reaching the ranking top if there is no one above?

I’ve heard people say they do not like thinking about this, or to think at all, yet they enjoy a game that requires intelligence, logic, strategy, insight…

I’m shure there are people who’d agree there is a controversy that is unmoved by the apathy felt for it.
what have you rational minds to say about the matter.
