What is wrong with board font and lines colours? They should be black, changed to white now!

What is wrong with board font and lines colours? Until some hours ago (at most) it was working all right. The colour I prefer to use to play is a darker wood and a black text, as well as black lines.

But a few minutes ago, when I just logged in again and — as the most ridiculous bug of not saving preferences of our account demands — I changed my theme settings. But then, when I loaded up a browser tab with a game, everything that should be black turned white!!! That is, the text and the lines drawing the board positions are white instead of being white. They are not reflecting what I see in the settings screen anymore! Why is that? What changed in OGS? Because nothing in what I use changed in any detail. Besides no change having been made, the theme settings shows what I want, but the actual game pages do not. Why are not they matching anymore?

The green areas are parts of the screenshot that were hidden to take off unecessary information of the image (player info, chat, and most game information, including played stones positions). But this is what a board for a game look like now, with the white font and white lines in all places we see them:

This is my preferences screen, showing what it should like. Notice that I have changed every setting in the theme to something different than what I wanted, checked what change happened, and then changed back to my tastes, or something close to it. The problem persists:

Can you help me finding where the problem is? Or do you have the problem right now?

Even that part of the settings screen, which shows the text choice (positions as letters and numbers, or just numbers) for the coordinates were not white here before — I vaguely remember here, though. But all the other parts have black lines now, and they always had!

Looks like you never found that “Effective Communication” course at your top university.

Wouldn’t this help you in this case? Like just switch computers and you’ll probably have black lines again.

No. This will not change anything. I do not use any site in the way you seem to expect I will do in some other computer.

Besides it is something I already tried to do, to find what caused the change (and the change happened in a single computer, within a few hours interval, with nothing changing in its context, as I clearly said and showed in the parts you did not quote of my post). If it was not clear for you, assuming you readed it, I meant that: in a computer I had all the theme settings as I always configure (with black lines and coordinates, among other things); after a few hours, this changed, but changed ONLY in the game views! In the theme settings screen that shows what we are choosing, they are as they should be (and have always been); and in the main OGS page, which shows miniatures for our active games, they are as they should also be (and have also always been).

So, I think it seems to be something that was changed served side, possibly near in time from the point I noticed the change.

@avique : In your “what a game look like now” image, I see huge
blocks of green, although your text doesn’t mention anything about green.

@hoctaph , the green rectangles in the first image are image edits, which I did not care to mention because they exist just to hide unnecessary things in the image, like opponent information, game chat, and stone positions… do you think this should be mentioned there? For me, they are obviously image edits to do what I did: hide unnecessary things.

I see you’ve made the change now, but previously:
Yes, since this thread is about a graphics issue.

Edited the first post text: the green areas in the first image are not part of the problem (which should be obvious, I thought, but maybe this is not always true).

@hoctaph , if the green rectangles were part of the problem, would not I also have said at least a word about them??

I think you would’ve if you saw them too, but not if this
was just the screenshot not correctly displaying to me.

  • swapping of black and white
  • only happens after a few hours

Check if your browser and/or OS turned Dark Mode on or off.

@JohnnieDarko , this would not happen in only one tab among 3 (or more of them), at the same moment of the day. No, the browser setting is not different in each (or any) of them.

I use dark mode, but it does not change automatically with the time of the days (with the night or the day beginning, or anything else). This is not the cause.

And a few hours ago, today, the problem would have fixed itself automatically too, if what you imagined was true. Actually, right now, is earlier than 17h here, the day is still pretty clear.

The discrepancy of the theme on the settings page is definitely weird and imo indicative of a bug.

One thing I do notice is that your settings page looks different than mine: your selection boxes for colours are squares, where mine are ovals.

Have you tried a hard refresh to get the latest version of OGS running? (Shift+F5 usually)

@JohnnieDarko , the square/rectangle thing in the stone personalization part is not a bug, I imagine. Probably just something due the browser and/or browser versions we use different. Sometimes, these strange things exist in one browser (and the standards it knows or recognizes) and not in another, even with both of them being updated.

I imagined it is a new bug because the strange board appearance started without anything possibly changing in the context I use the site. I checked this more than 2 times!

Forgot to say, @JohnnieDarko , I have tried the hard refresh a lot of times. I am wishing I did not, though, since it seems that something have changed outside here… :woman_shrugging:t5:

Ok I’m unfortunately out of ideas.
However if hard refreshing broke something else, that could be worth looking into.

Hard refreshing did not brake anything else. Every other page I use here is normal, @JohnnieDarko . Thank you for your attention, anyway.

I imagined that some code or server update would have caused something similar to others too, and that it would be found and corrected (or undone) fairly fast. Since none seems to know about it (assuming that everyone that should know the issue knows it), I will just wait, and get used to the bad line colour when I play.
