What needs to be done to bring Go to the Olympics?

Or is it just an impossible dream?

I don’t want Go in the Olympics.

Bringing go to the Olympics would probably need:

  • a lot of money (millions or more)
  • a plan how to achieve this
  • a change in the olympic manifest (also including "mind sports’ besides physical sports)
  • an enormous amount of stamina (decades long effort)
  • go becoming a worldwide known sport with dito media coverage
  • backing up of the national olympic committees
  • etc.

Don’t think it will ever happen. Also can understand Uber’s sentiment.

But how about a a Mind Games Olympics?

Mindsport Olympics were created in 2008 with a huge investment and competitors from all over the world.
I was there I can testimony it was very successful. For go CJK sent an incredible quantity of their top players. And they were representative from almost all countries where go is played.

The sad news is that the event had almost no coverage from western médias and so got unnoticed.

Oh wow I didn’t know such event existed. Do pros go to this event?

Also what is diving chess lol.

Yeah I remember that event.
But I think it’s not really continued anymore?

It is but not as big as it was that time.

Rio de Janeiro was announced as hosts for the 2016 event,[8] but that did not happen and no further games have been held.

Hmm are you talking about another event that is still being held?

I didn’t know they stopped from Rio.

I even dunno where is the next Olympics, let’s hope the chosen country will have some interest in mindsports.

Enthusiasm to organize and host the Olympics seems to be declining.
Not really surprising since it costs a lot and hardly ever/ never is profitable (even on the long run).

I’m actually wearing my WMSG 2012 red polo shirt today.

Oh i had no idea that WMSG did stop, what on earth happened to them? O_O

Hmm for the olympics
? I dont think it really fits the event, the olympic games should be 1. easy to explain to new spectators who are watching the sport for the first time, 2. possible to broadcast on radio.

US, and then Australia, but I don’t see any chance for mindsports to be included (let alone for Go to be included).

I have seen so many sports that I don’t understand no matter how many times I look at it lol

You could just look at the medals table and imagine this is a Go competition with some upsets.

You have crappy broadcasters there!

My local tv pundits always explain the rules of the sport, espesially for some less known ones like canoe slalom or skateboarding. Most people who watch those those on olympics are watching the sport for the first time (or have only seen it played in previous olympics) so they need to explain both the rules and the tounament format each time ^^

I think I’m watching the official broadcasters lol.

I usually watch halfway in and they can’t be explaining the rules every 5 minutes.

I wonder how many pros or strong amateurs join this event

It’s essentially the same as any other UK tournament
