“Everybody has a plan ‘till they get punched in the mouth” – Mike Tyson
I always forget who that quote’s from, but it’s a good one. I always cite it as “some guy who sounded like he knew what he was talking about”
But many of us experienced Favorite or Most Useful Go Proverbs
My favorite: “Cut first, think later”
But that’s rather irony, I think, and not a “serious” Go proverb?
It should be understood as: in many situations, you can cut, the opponent has to respond, and you’ll decide the continuation according to the opponent’s answer. You don’t always need to save the cutting stone, it can be used for aji.
“If you don’t know how to answer, tenuki.”
The shorter version of that is “When in doubt, tenuki.”
Agreed, it’s not really serious, but works surprisingly often.
i’ve seen this as “don’t throw good stones after bad”
Read it out, Steve
