On this reddit post there is this curious position and oddity of superko using the send-2, return-1: https://www.reddit.com/r/baduk/s/T1lDBwGjSg
Under (positional) superko rules, this is a loss for white, because black can force a different position in the bamboo joints this allows him to send-2 again but doesn’t allow white to capture if he have passed, so white must fill an eye in the bottom.
Under general long cycle (tracking captured stones), this is a win for white. Because once a cycle is complete he captured 2 stones and black only one, and if black tries to ko threat using the bamboo joints to avoid a cycle eventually they reach seki.
Under Robert Jasiek short cycle rules (if a cycle is 2-3 moves the last to capture lost the game, if it is 4+ moves it is a draw), this is also a win for white, because in the conclusion to send-2, return-1 the last to capture is black and the cycle is short.
Just by gut feeling (or a reasoned argument), what do you think should be the fairest result of this game just by looking at the board?
PS: I’m not trying to find “THE BEST SUPERKO RULE”, I still think that the positional superko rule is elegant and simple, and I know that such beast positions are just that, a beast position meant to show a “failure” of the rules.
