Why do ppl say gg before the game has even started?

gl is the greeting used in different games across internet, but wishing luck in Go game feels like a slap on the face. My theory is that gg is a mutation of gl, without the luck factor.

When I first started playing internet go, I thought that saying gg to your opponent before the game was disrespectful. I thought it meant, “Good game, I already won”, which is what it means in other internet games. Then I realized that it actually meant, “Have a good game”. Now I feel silly for saying “Good luck” instead…

In the purpose of wishing a good game, “GL HF” is perfect.
It means good luck and have fun.

Checking the dictionary and thesaurus encourages maintaining a distinction between “oversensitive” and “asinine”.
