Just a note to say that I was aware of the double meaning, and that my post just meant to be a joke, but wasn’t aware of the controversies around that term and had no idea some people might feel offended by it.
Well, those people who feel offended by being called “Kartoffel” are mostly conservative and somewhat racist Germans who often wouldn’t mind using racist slurs. So please don’t worry about them.
Btw, I like using the word “Kartoffelhintergrund” (“potato background”), including for myself, as a counterpart of “Migrationshintergrund” (“background of migration” - a term that has its own story).
Yeah, I’m a Kaaskop (Cheesehead)
I wouldn’t feel insulted being called that.
And i am a frog (who lost his pond long time ago). Now frogs +cheese +potatoes sounds like a good start for some delicious recipe.
as “pottu”
^_____^
Yeah, aware of that, having been linksgrün versifft politically aware and sometimes also active since ’73 …
I absolutely love “Kartoffelhintergrund”, thanks for that, I will incorporate it into my active vocabulary (if I remember it ).
