World Amateur Go Championship 2022

Does anybody have information on the World Amateur Go Championship 2022? All the information I could retrieve online was the EGF saying it is happening in China this year. I can’t make out if it is even certain that it will take place at all.

We (the Italian federation, I mean) have not received anything yet. Last year we received the invitation at the beginning of February. We have to wait, I guess.

The international amateur Go community post-pandemic is going to be represented in China?

Can’t see any irony there…

It’s being played online over the next couple of weeks, if we’re reading this invitation email correctly here in Australia. Seems rather hastily organised, though.

Yes

Not really I think, but you can see the first round here and the second here. From the second you can guess who won in the first. I just lost the second round.

Rounds 4, 5?

It’s everything here  (click on “English” in the upper right)

4th round pairings(already played)
5th round pairings(already played)
6th round pairings(3rd and 4th December)

France and China are the only undefeated countries. Maybe we can see an European on the podium again  Also Denis Dobranis from Romania could be a candidate if he wins.

Denis Dobranis will play against Baduk Doctor. Unlikely that he wins.

Probably China will win against France, and 5 competitors will have 5 victories (France, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan).

Just saw on our UK go mailing list that the UK representative withdrew because, despite concerns about scheduling with timezones around the world raised beforehand, the players were required to play at times convenient to the Chinese organisers rather than the players in other parts of the world.

Played online is pretty lame, a big part of the WAGC is the coming together of players around the world in meatspace, socialising etc, such as this photo I took at the 2016 edition:

I confirm: I had to play some games (including the first against an European player) at night

@_Sofiam Well done, you finish in the first half!

Does anyone know what happened in the match Taipei-Slovakia? The table above as well as the game records say that Taipei won, but the screenshot of the game says B+Time (Slovakia was black).
