World Cup 2026

I put some money on Curacao winning the cup, but unfortunately that didn’t work out ;___;

You should go for a walk during the world cup matches. The street are very quiet, very fewer cars so you you can enjoy staying in the middle of the street!

Group stages of international games are notoriously fickle.
You have to be addicted (or really loaded) to bet actual money on the final results of those games.

Whoever had a million to play on an 8% payout final result risk, shouldn’t ever go near a betting website.

There are various tactics which involve playing low payout bets (e.g. some of them are used as staples in higher stakes combination bets - e.g. if your total bets have a payout of 4x, then adding an 0.08 payout game, actually pays 0.08*4 = 0.32, so some people play combos of a couple of risky bets and 3 to 5 obvious staples to add more juice to their bet, without adding significant risk), so considering that this was a world cup game, the overall losses of such an unlikely result, were certainly in the tens of millions.

Aren’t most games very late at night for the EU timezones, anyway?

They are happening around evening/late evening or slightly night but nothing outrageous like watching NBA finals since 3 AM :sob:

Some happened in the evening at a time when I used to see still a lot of people and traffic. But I am in a big town ( the 5th in France)

Ah, sometimes the ignorance of people that sit in front of a camera can be refreshingly funny:

For those who do not have twitter or do not wish to go there, it is a clip of a US journalist that seems to think that Bosnia & Herzegovina are two totally different countries that banded together in order to face the USA in the World Cup, because they were smaller. (to add to the fun, the text under the “news” reads “EXPALINED” instead of “EXPLAINED”)

I am not sure how that would even work, so, of course, someone made this:

I’d like to watch that football variant, to be honest.

Does it mean she expresses herself like Sarah Palin?

I am losing count of these kind of articles these days after each match of Argentina. Referee bias for Argentina started in world cup 2022 as a joke that referees give Messi penalties for random things each match, then it got big after the controversial match of Argentina vs Netherlands that saw some crazy referee decisions. Now, in this world cup, this story has got so much bigger. After every single match of Argentina, there is some controversy about referee decisions - the last being the red card against Switzerland. FIFA’s reputation on and off the pitch is not helping either.

Not just after Argentina matches are there decisions favouring Argentina. The English defender Quansah who got a red card for a tackle similar to that which USA’s Balogun also got a red card for, got his ban extended to 2 games rather than default 1 game, meaning he not only missed quarter final vs Norway but also semi final vs Argentina. Whilst Balogun got his ban reduced to 0 games after Trump called Infantino. And Messi didn’t even get a card for a similar studs up tackle earlier in the competition.

I guess you only have a chance to be World Champion if you beat Austria.

If they found a way to snatch Bavaria from Germany, they could have a fair chance to win the world cup themselves. DFB seems currently grossly mismanaged, and just wasting players’ potential.

Seems like many people lost their bet, and nobody bet on England
