The distinction is quite interesting: sente and gote are uncountable, whereas tempo is a countable noun. I think the difference is that in chess, especially in king and pawn endgames, there is a very clear sense of stringing together tempi to form a single path of movement over the board. Whereas in Go, although groups move and run, their speed of travel is inconstant and there isn’t the same mental link.

Go needs a bughouse type variant. Team, but each partner plays a seperate game that can impact their partner’s game. No clue if this already exists or not.
