2022: HOLD MY TEA! šŸµ

Found a entertaining article apparently written in 2018. Vitriolic but clearly the person is knowledgeable. Proverbs, references.

Meanwhile it’s reassuring to me that we’ll not be running out trivial problems to get cross about any time soon…

That Meghan Markle would make a Greek poet go viral wasn’t on my 2022 bingo card.

Seems like they still struggle with cleaning up the streets.

I found this cool article about Europe. Cool pictures.

Rudy Giuliani cleaned up the streets a generation ago, primarily through ordinary police work. Subsequently, his successors abandoned his policies, and the streets reverted to a dangerous mess.

I played a great deal of Diplomacy from my teen years through my early 20s. Indeed, I learned the game at a Christmas party, from a very famous science fiction writer (before he was published, and now deceased). However, I’m not going to spend 90 minutes listening to a lecture about it.

Full disclosure: I never won a game, but I came in second many times. Weirdly, I drew Great Britain as my country far more than one would expect. It is hard to win with Britain, but easy to come in second.

I find the idea of a professional Diplomacy player slightly comical, but bravo to him for figuring out how to make a buck from it.

Late to the party but I watched and read documentary about miracle neurosurgeon Charlie Teo.

He defended himself here

I haven’t seen amended complaint anywhere and don’t know how to look up these but I found this posted.

After years of trying to curate a reputation as the bad boy of chess, Plaintiff Hans Niemann wants to cash in by blaming others for the fallout from his own admitted misconduct. Niemann’s Amended Complaint concedes that he has a well-known history of cheating. But rather than dealing with the unsurprising consequences of his own actions, Niemann now seeks to shift blame to reigning World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen and others, claiming a wholly implausible conspiracy to defame and boycott Niemann that somehow damaged his already dubious reputation to the tune of $100 million.

I’ve been wondering what those ā€˜police forces’ will be doing now. How to use employees whose main qualification is molesting women?

Well, it’s a specialization that has wide applications. I’m sure their zeal, dedication and experience in such practices won’t go unappreciated.

Somehow an atrocious 1971 Belgian submission for the Eurovision song contest went viral in Ukraine?

The song is titled ā€œGoeiemorgenā€ (Good morning), but in Ukrainian (and/or Russian?) that apparently sounds a bit like swearing that applies well to some messed up situation, such as a breakdown of electricity or heating.

Someone’s not a true Eurovision fan…

Well, I find some Eurovision songs quite good, but this is not one of them (I never even heard of it before).

When I read about a song named ā€œGood Morning,ā€ I instantly think of this one. A good antidote to clear your ears.

The distinction is a good song, and a good Eurovision song.

Eurovision is at its best when it’s atrocious, camp and extravagant (and it doesn’t have to be a catchy tune, a ballad can check those boxes).
I think its downfall was when they tried to reach the mainstream crowd.
