When planning conditional moves, I usually want to move back and forth between the different moves in a branch to review whether their placement is realistic or whether I actually wish to play that way.
However, recently, if you press any key while in conditional move planning, it will switch you over to analysis mode. It feels a bit sudden to first be in one mode and planning moves, and then suddenly be switched to analysis mode. It feels unexpected and not entirely logical.
In “Conditional moves” mode, until a few days ago it was possible to use the back and forth arrows to navigate in the conditional tree.
For instance, I could enter a possible opponent move, enter my response, then go back two moves by clicking the back arrow two times, and enter a different possible opponent move and my response to that.
But now, if I click the back arrow, OGS immediately closes the “Conditional moves” mode, and gets into “Game analysis” mode.
As a side-effect, the changes to the conditional tree are saved and become effective immediately, something that normally doesn’t happen until I click the submit button of the conditional moves mode.
This part of the code has had some recent changes, so it’s not surprising to find a bug of this nature (unlike some of the other recent problems reported, which are still “mysterious”).
Im still noticing this bug. Specifically, when i hit the “prev move” button under the board, the conditional moves get saved and the board enters analysis mode
Just starting correspondence play on OGS, the conditional move feature seems like a great way to move things forward. But if the “conditional move entry ↔ analysis mode” bug is still out there, perhaps I’ll refrain from trying to enter conditional moves for now.
Likely so. But being a newbie and learning the ropes, I didn’t want to wander off into analysis mode during a ranked ladder game. Perhaps being overly cautious.
Good to hear it’s working for you. Maybe I’ll just forge ahead.
To follow up: I did just enter a couple of conditional moves on a correspondence (ladder) game. Stepped back and forth through the potential moves. No analysis mode was triggered. If that was the behavior of concern, it seems to be fixed. All’s well that ends well.
