April's fools but I hate pranks, so just fun

Since I watched the episode in Hikaru where Sai plays half a game as one color and then switches and turns the game around, I’ve been wondering if this is a thing, do pros actually show their skill by turning their own games around?

Which also got me thinking, would anyone be interested in playing a game (of course not ranked or anything, probably a demo board), where discobot would decide whose turn it is? Probably it could work with more than 2 people as well.

I’m in! That sounds cool. :sunglasses:

A “switch halfway” game could be quite a strategic challenge. How to leave holes in your position that you can use to your advantage when the board is turned

And without the other person noticing!

I’ll wait a bit in case anyone else wants to join and we’re on

Or maybe the game would feature careful, peaceful plays that try to keep things balanced, especially if there is the possibility of sides being switched more than once.

Theoretically it could, but… why?

I feel like I’m being baited toward saying something pedantic

It’s not bait, it’s an invitation to unfold your true nature. Like a peacock.

I created this 9x9 demo board https://online-go.com/demo/view/456658. Game is public.

There are currently 4 players (N = 4).
We should roll an (N – 1)-sided die to choose the next player after each move, e.g., roll 1d3.
This is to prevent the same person from playing twice in a row (see the procedure below).

Procedure

@Gia played the first move.

On your turn:

  1. State your move by posting in this thread and @Gia will play it on the board.
  2. Also write @discobot roll 1d3 at the bottom of your post to select the next player.
  3. The next player is selected by the dice roll added to your ID, modulo N.
Name of Person Rolls a 1 Rolls a 2 Rolls a 3
Bugcat Gia’s turn Haze with a Z’s turn Yebellz’s turn
Gia Haze with a Z’s turn Yebellz’s turn Bugcat’s turn
Haze with a Z Yebellz’s turn Bugcat’s turn Gia’s turn
Yebellz Bugcat’s turn Gia’s turn Haze with a Z’s turn

This post is a wiki so we can edit stuff as needed.

OK because it seems that 1-3 is too small to be random, I’ll make it 1-2, 3-4, 5-6.
