Are OGS rankings inflated, deflated or neither?

To be clear, my personal position is that I’d like to see the experiment happen: I’d like for OGS to try out a system where beginners are allowed to self-identify.

Even though I personally believe it will lead to chaos, we need the test to know for sure.

I think it’s better than nothing, but the whole experience does need improving, for the sake of everyone. I don’t think there’s an easy fix though. You certainly can’t “just set ranks”, that was horrible when we did it for lots of reasons.

It used to be a thing and it lead to lots of problems, I believe something like ratings drift and inflation and other things but I’d have to dig up some old threads
