I thought these textures were interesting, maybe someone will want to use them. (Guess what they are.)
Is that corroded metal? Like on an old light pole or something?
Correct! Specifically, some old corroded steel beams in a retired power plant in St. Louis.
Hmm, I am just wondering what happens if you add a rectangular picture for the board?
Won’t the background distract you from playing games?
I don’t think this is distracting, nor it hurts your eyes.

I’ve been using this ai-generated winter landscape for few months now, i find it peaceful and calming, although i’ve been thinking about going back to some more traditional wood texture soon. But let’s see ^^
Just for future reference, I’ve created some Sabaki themes and collected some other work in this repo. (And let me leave a reference to this other related thread about stone theming).
Lately, I’ve been trying to recreate the look & feel of the old board + stones, with some help from the Wayback Machine.
This board is a straight up recreation of the original one:
However the stones are a bit more tricky: they are PNGs with a very poor 33x33 resolution, which don’t look great on 9x9 boards.
So here are the original stones:
I tried recreating them as best I could using SVG. Here are my “HD“ versions:

Black stone makes me nostalgic
You’re welcome to use them as your playing graphics, as I have been doing for the last few weeks (I recommend removing the default shadow to get the most genuine appearance). I feel 3 stones stronger with that skin on
.
Any feedback on the svg versions will be appreciated.
I guess if I try using the svg versions (links above), you can kind of see a box border on them
while the png ones linked seem a lot sharper
I think I know what the problem is. I used a blur on the border to achieve a low-res effect (ironic, right?), but it seems to be breaking it on your end, while it does not really buy me much on my end:
as you can see, they’re quite crisp, which isn’t even what I intended.
I think I’ll do away with the blur, as I’m reading it is not rendered consistently accross different software.
May I ask which browser / OS are you using?
It was iOS/safari, in case you can see the same effect
I’ve been working on Goban Decals, highly stylized Go boards that are inspired by modern board game art. Have you ever wanted to play with pebbles on a sandy beach?
What makes them different is that the grid is part of the board image, and it naturally blends in with the theme. For example, the grid can look like it’s drawn on the sand with a stick. A client chooses the right board for the game size.
Thanks Anoek and GreenAsJade for merging all the changes to make it possible to display themes like that, and share them with a few clicks.
