I just found out that GIF backgrounds work:

Nice!

Heh, so gif backgrounds work and it’s possible to convert sgf to gif so the truly masochistic can try and play go with the sgf of a different game flashing around underneath their stones :sweat_smile::sweat_smile:

Hmmm… ok, it works. But how does it feel?

Might that be cheating since it may show a relevant joseki or killing sequence?

Maybe use gifs without much movement? Like leaves falling off a tree.

In my view it’s only cheating to look up your current position, seeing as it’s almost impossible to guess in advance what moves your opponent will make even if you try to lead a game down a known line. Further, it’s impossible to police since we can’t see user board settings…
I guess it could be seen as a grey area by some but frankly I think the distraction would far outweigh any theoretical advantage.

[Englishness intensifies]

I bet some strawberry-shaped stones would look cute on this, with sort of Alice in Wonderland vibe…

Nice. Why are the waves flowing away fron the shore?
[edit:]
Now I think about it, I suppose the shore could be off to the left.

Solarized Dark Goban:

Advantages:

  • Low contrast so doesn’t strain the eyes
  • No background needed - just set custom colors

Disadvantages:

  • Low contrast so not good for color blind and other visual impairments
  • Stones are not black and white and player cards do not update so not immediately obvious which stones belong to which player

Settings:

  • Board = #002B36
  • Lines = #839496
  • White stones = #2AA198
  • Black stones = #B58900

Love it! Solarized dark is what I use for everything, so yeah, why not here too! Why didn’t you pick one of the grayscale shades for white?

Yes, #E0E2E4 would probably would be better for white. Will try later (setting colours that way doesn’t work on my phone, only laptop)

Solarized Inspired Color Schemes

Some further experimentation with color schemes selecting from the Solarized palette

Using “yellow” for the background

With the “yellow” desaturated

Dark mode with shades of grey

That last one is sleek!

It reminds me of the DeepMind art.

Nice! How did you get the player card colours to match?
