a4 seems to me to be the answer is it ? question two upper left corner those are going to be gone
white has 5â black has has 11 ???
To find out what you misunderstand, could you explain how you obtained these numbers? Please donât throw numbers randomly but tell us what you counted exactly.
Yes! A4 correct! Good job you are learning : )
In Go, we count the intersections, not the squares
Iâve circled Whiteâs points for easier counting - can you try again?
10 points for whiteâ maybe 11 for black i think
Well, you are correct that White has 10 points, but - by my count - Black has a lot more than 11 points
Try to count all of the empty intersections that are Blackâs side of the board, including the ones along the bottom
Let me repeat.
BLACK HAS 23 POINTS I GUESSâ- I FORGOT THE BOARD WAS SO SMALL THOUGHT IT WAS A PICTURE OF A MUCH LARGER BOARD NAW THATS NOT THE TRUTHâ ITS JUST I DIDNâT UNDERSTAND WHAT THE BLACK STONES CONTROLLED TO THE EDGE OF THE BOARD I WAS COUNTING JUST WHAT THEY TOUCHED SO MAYBE I LEARNED SOMETHING THERE
10 for white was correct! And 23 for black is not far off. Itâs actually 21:
Letâs try the next step:
How many points does white have below?
How many does black have?
11 FOR WHITE 10 FOR BLACK
MISTAKE 10 FOR WHITE
Reminder:
-
Your own stones in your territory do NOT count as points, only empty intersections count as points.
-
OTOH, Opponent stones in your territory count double:
-
once for the empty intersection they leave after being taken out (in Real Life games they are taken out and put to the other prisoners in the lid of the stones bowl after both players have passed).
-
And because these prisoners-to-be are subtracted from the opponentâs points (in Real Life games they are placed in the opponents territory before counting, thus reducing it).
-
Another reminder:
IN INTERNET FORUMS, MAILING LISTS, AND SOCIAL NETWORKS, ALLCAPS ARE CONSIDERED AS SHOUTING and thus as impolite ![]()
IF you need the type to be larger to be legible because of bad eyesight, increase the font size in your preferences, or, if in a desktop or laptop browser, press ctrl+plus on Windows or Linux, or cmd+plus on macOS.
point taken about font size i will try to remember but i do forget quite easily in hasting to post my thought that i since i use caps every where esle i post and write forget to to turn off i made myself a note and posted to the top of my laptop screen just to remember sorry if i offened any one
wel back to your reply that last post of yours really confused me now i donât have any idea how to count points i thought a cross hairs you touch was a point and when two opposing stones share a crosshairs no point â guess i have to restart again and just when i thought i was getting a handle on this point thing â god this game is awful confusing for me -
Only empty intersections do count as points. So white only has 7 points now.
What you should take away from this:
Putting stones into your own territory reduces your score.
For black the situation is a bit more difficult:
The two white stones in blackâs territory do not have âtwo eyesâ.
Meaning: They do not fully surround at least two free intersections that are not connected to each other.
Because of that, the two white stones are considered prisoners of black, are removed from the board and count as points for black. (You also call the two white stones dead stones.)
So black gets two points for the two dead white stones.
As soon as the dead stones have been removed, you again count the free intersections:
So black has 18 points of territory plus 2 points for the two prisoners that have been removed from the board. Makes 20 points in total for black.
well then i completely screwed that assignment up didnât i â i thought that a1 and a2 where whites free and clear
could explain why a1 and a2 are not whites points to me ?
