Etiquette for Chinese/NZ rules

Since most games on OGS use Japanese rules, but there are a few Chinese/NZ tournaments, what do people think about etiquette concerning dame points? I mean, your opponent stops playing and you win by 0.5 points because you fill the remaining points? Are you being mean or is it a blunder that your opponent should not make?

Filling dame isn’t being mean if it’s gaining points. The opponent can learn from the loss if they keep passing.

On the other hand, there’s no harm in passing if your opponent has passed either, and you distribute the dame in the scoring stage manually.

It’s not mean to play good moves when your opponent plays bad moves. But you can remind them it’s Chinese rules in the chat after their first pass.
