Wait, did both @Feijoa’s and @martin3141’s pieces disappear at B4?
Yes, because the stone is red.
On my phone right now, will post the round update later.
but yours is green and white, shouldn’t that have survived?
Since we played the same move (a collision), a stone is placed with all our combined colours (black, red, white, green). Then that stone got captured due to the red having no liberties.
This reminds me that “show board after stone placement but before resolving captures” would be a great feature.
ah right, of course
Sorry for the delay.
Round 15
@Feijoa
and @martin3141
collide at B4, and the resulting 4-colored stone is immediately captured.
So… is anything unconditionally alive or dead yet?
please say blue ![]()
We’re far from a situation where any team would be able to safely pass!
Blue in particular only has one eye in the screenshot above, two in the new board position ![]()
Red seems to be doing better with four eyes, but the individual red-black and red-white chains within it don’t really have any (there is a red-white-black stone on the border).
I think to be safe, an individual color pair like red-black needs four eyes with none of the enemy color intruding. Shared eyes with friendly stones are okay though. For example this would be alive:
I’m sure I don’t understand all the possibilities. It seems like there are a lot of weird things that could be stable in the endgame.
I think it’s also possible that chains end up being “conditionally alive”.
I will try to come up with an example position later, when having access to my computer.
Basically a secondary color chain can be alive if one team can’t capture it and the other team doesn’t want to capture it. (or if neither team wants to capture it)
For example the blue chain in the end position of game 1 in the upper-left.
White could capture it, but has no incentive to do so (and Black can’t capture it).
Btw I realised that blue turns into black when I wear blue light lens
Team White, how do we feel about our chances if/when Green is captured?
I honestly have no idea!
If we all play the remaining spaces in green, even if the other team plays there too we can still capture it, right?
Yes for example if you play A2 (so both colors of A3 are part of a new chain this round, which is relevant for capture priority), Sadaharu plays B1 and I play B4, then I think the green chain will be captured no matter what.
Might be worth a try to stir up some trouble ![]()
@Tschej and @benjito, I know you’ve played your moves already, but if they might be doing that we could change to capturing white in the lower right while we still have the chance.
On the other hand, if they know we’re doing that, they might decide to mess us up instead.
Worth a shot, ill play in the top right of that little square
@Sadaharu did you play in the bottom left region?
