So we got a high chance to see Wang Xinghao against Shin Jinseo in the final. Although Li Qincheng is extremely good at blitz time setting, and whether or not Wang Xinghao can live up to his name as the future of Chinese pros will be determined by tomorrow’s match.

I’m not sure we do, but we definitely need a dedicated thread for that.

1st Nanyang Cup Semi-finals Results:

Li Qincheng loses to Wang Xinghao

Dang Yifei loses to Shin Jinseo by 2 and 1/4 stones

Li Qincheng lost to Wang Xinghao very quickly and the game didn’t even last more than 2 hours. At one point of time, the game was so complicated that there were 7 unsettled groups all mingled with one another. Wang Xinghao managed to settle part of the groups through a ko and he was winning the game ever since.

Shin Jinseo’s win over Dang Yifei was very difficult. He was leading since the start of the game until the late middle game, but suddenly the game turned to Dang’s favour due to a few mistakes that Shin made. However, Dang didn’t managed to keep the lead and the game went back to Shin who kept it till the end. The situation was almost a replica was Shin’s game yesterday with Gu Zihao.

The finals between Shin Jinseo and Wang Xinhao will be a best of 3 held in Singapore on 26th Feb, 28th Feb and 1st of March 2025. The match to decide the 3rd place will also be played between Li Qincheng and Dang Yifei on 26th Feb 2025.

Also interesting to see how far Choi Jeong can advance this year, can she still march into the final as she did in 2022. Or if Kim Eunji can live up to her promise to be the next future star of Korean pros?

2024 Samsung Cup Round of 32 Part 1 Results:

Yoo Changhyeok loses to Xie Ke

Pongsakarn loses to Fan Yin by 9.5 points

Choi Myeonghun loses to Li Xuanhao by 14.5 points

Hsu Hao Hong loses to Xu Jiayang

An Jeonggi wins Chen Zhengxun by 0.5 points

Choi Jeong wins Gu Zihao by 0.5 points

Xie Erhao loses to Kim Eunji

In an early preview of the Nanyang Cup Finals, after playing half a good game, Shin Jinseo managed to win Wang Xinghao after a mistake cost Wang Xinghao his game. Both Choi Jeong and Kim Eunji managed to beat their difficult opponents Gu Zihao and Xie Erhao. Gu Zihao has won the Samsung Cup before and Xie Erhao was the previous runner-up. This is one of the rare times when two female players entered the Top 16 of the Samsung Cup at the same time!

2024 Samsung Cup Round of 32 Part 2 – China Dominates

Round of 32 Part 2 Results:

Han Yizhou loses to Shin Minjun

Seol Hyeonjun loses to Jin Yucheng

Kim Myeonghun loses to Chen Xian

Park Junghwan loses to Dang Yifei

Ding Hao wins against Kang Dongyun

Shibano Toramaru wins against Tan Xiao

Byun Sangil loses to Ke Jie

Ichiriki Ryo loses to Lian Xiao by 3.5 points

In the early preview of the LG Cup Finals, Byun Sangil unfortunately lost to Ke Jie. Ke Jie played well but Byun also had some chances. However, he succumbed to time pressure and made many mistakes, costing the game. Korea also didn’t do well in the other games and all lost except for Shin Minjun.

Shibano Toramaru did very well against Tan Xiao, dominating the entire game. Ichiriki Ryo also had a good game against Lian Xiao, but lost in the late middle-game after a difficult ko. A pity he couldn’t carry on from his good performance in the Ing Cup. Seems like Byoyomi is still his fatal weakness.

That concludes the Round of 32 of the Samsung Cup. The final distribution of players in the Top 16 is:

China – 10
Korea – 5
Japan – 1

Round of 16 Part 1 to be played 14th November 12pm GMT+9:

Round of 16 Part 2 to be played 15th November 12pm GMT+9:

Xu Jiayang VS Shin Minjun

Li Xuanhao VS Pan Yin

Ke Jie VS Shin Jinseo

Lian Xiao VS Chen Xian

Will Choi Jeong be able to get her 801st win and aim for the finals again? Will Kim Eunji be able to beat Xie Ke after beating Xie Erhao? Will Shibano Toramaru be able to break through the star player in the Chinese League?

Stay tuned to find out.

2024 Samsung Cup Round of 16 Part 1 Results:

Dang Yifei wins against An Jeonggi

Choi Jeong loses to Ding Hao

Shibano Toramaru loses to Jin Yucheng

Kim Eunji loses to Xie Ke

Another sad day for Korea today. Kim Eunji was at a huge disadvantage after making a mistake in early game and couldn’t come back after that. Choi Jeong couldn’t overcome Ding Hao’s solid play. An Jeonggi and Shibano Toramaru had some chances but couldn’t win in the end. China won 4 games today.

That leaves only Shin Jinseo and Shin Minjun from Korea. Part 2 of the Round of 16 will be played tomorrow same time.

Round of 16 Part 2 to be played 15th November 12pm GMT+9:

Xu Jiayang VS Shin Minjun

Li Xuanhao VS Pan Yin

Ke Jie VS Shin Jinseo

Lian Xiao VS Chen Xian

Will the remaining two Shin’s show their power and help Korea get into the Top 8?

Stay tuned to find out.

2024 Samsung Cup Round of 16 Part 2 Results:

Fan Yin loses to Li Xuanhao

Shin Jinseo wins against Ke Jie by 0.5 points

Xu Jiayang wins against Shin Minjun by 5.5 points

Chen Xian loses to Lian Xiao by 1.5 points

Shin Jinseo had an extremely tough game against Ke Jie. He was at less than 10% after making a few mistakes in early game. Maybe he was under immense pressure as he and Shin Minjun were the only Koreans left in Samsung Cup. Only in endgame did he manage to catch up due to Ke Jie’s mistakes. Game became very close and Ke Jie made one final mistake which led to Shin Jinseo winning by half a point. It’s almost a miracle that he won this game.

On the other side, Shin Minjun’s game was almost the reverse of Shin Jinseo’s. He had a lead against Xu Jiayang in the middle game. He could keep the lead by using simple moves to reduce the black territory, but he thought too much and tried to do more, ending up losing more stones.

With that, Shin Jinseo is the only remaining Korean in the Top 8, together with 7 other Chinese players.

Round of 8 Part 1 to be played 16th November 12pm GMT+9:

Jin Yucheng VS Xu Jiayang

Li Xuanhao VS Dang Yifei

Round of 8 Part 2 to be played 17th November 12pm GMT+9:

Shin Jinseo VS Ding Hao

Xie Ke VS Lian Xiao

Shin Jinseo will have a rest day before playing against Ding Hao. Will he be able to help Korea get into the semi-finals?

Stay tuned to find out.

2024 Samsung Cup Round of 8 Part 1 Results:

Xu Jiayang loses to Jin Yucheng

Li Xuanhao loses to Dang Yifei

Round of 8 Part 2 to be played 17th November 12pm GMT+9:

Shin Jinseo VS Ding Hao

Xie Ke VS Lian Xiao

China Ranking No. 2 and No. 3 Li Xuanhao and Dang Yifei played a very high-quality game with many big exchanges. Dang Yifei made a big mistake in the middle game but Li Xuanhao also made a big mistake, making the game even again. Eventually Li couldn’t fight against Dang’s perfect endgame and lost by resign.

On the other side, Xu Jiayang was winning Jin Yucheng by a lot but he ended up in the same situation as his opponent yesterday by trying to do more. Eventually, Jin Yucheng won the game by resign. Jin can really be considered a dark horse in this game.

In Part 2 of the Round of 8 tomorrow, Shin Jinseo plays against the defending champion Ding Hao. Both players are said to be off form, so who will recover by then?

Stay tuned to find out.

Ding Hao (B) VS Shin Jinseo

Samsung Cup Round of 8 Part 2 Results:

Ding Hao wins against Shin Jinseo

Lian Xiao wins against Xie Ke by 0.5 points

Semifinals Part 1 to be played 18th November 12pm GMT+9:

Ding Hao VS Jin Yucheng

Semifinals Part 2 to be played 19th November 12pm GMT+9:

Lian Xiao VS Dang Yifei

Summary:

Shin Jinseo’s off form continues as he makes some questionable moves from early game. On the other hand, Ding Hao’s perfect play continues despite him being slightly sick. Game became close in late middle game, but unlike yesterday’s game, it was Ding Hao who fully exploited Shin Jinseo’s shape to gain profits. Eventually Shin Jinseo couldn’t break through the defending champion and lost by resign.

With that, the Top 4 is only left with Chinese players. Like last year, China has secured the champion trophy early. Tomorrow’s match is between the defending champion Ding Hao and the dark horse Jin Yucheng who came to the Top 4 despite being his first time to join the Samsung Cup.
