Redmond update.
Redmond won his game in Judan preliminaries against Tozawa Akinobu. Next game is against Shiraishi Yuichi.
Additionally mamumamu list was updated with August games, Redmond jumped 28 positions and is now 85th Japanese player.
Octoberfest~
Mlily cup starts next week. On the 9th at 18:30 (Chinese time) there’s going to be opening ceremony and pairing lottery and next day at 12:30 the first round.
Participants:
Redmond update.
Last week Redmond lost to Adachi Toshimasa 6p in Gosei preliminaries, if he’d won he would go to main tournament but alas. However he’s still going strong in Juudan preliminaries (B), Redmond won against Shiraishi Yuichi 7p and is going to play Cho Sun Jin 9p (scary name!).
In Honinbo preliminaries (C ) Antti lost to Hoshiai Shiho 2p. That’s a woman who did move readouts in NHK videos, she’s ~200th player in Japan.
Mlily cup pairings are up. Nothing interesting to be honest. Too lazy to translate all 32 pairs so here’s western edition:
Artem Kachanovsky vs Xie Ke
Yi Lingtao VS Ilya Shikshin
Li Xiangyu VS Jiang Mingjiu
Kim Jiseok VS Liu Zhiyuan (Andy Liu)
Mh… I for one find it quite interesting when European pros participate
wow only one of the American pros in entered?
Jiang Mingjiu is participating under US flag too as far as I can see. I’m not sure how we should count that.
Nihon kiin’s typhoon broadcast
Redmond played today and lost.
A bit of old news for those who don’t keep up. In past few days Nongshim cup was played. It’s a win-and-continue team competition. Teams of Korea, Japan and China consisting of 5 players participate. It’s played one game at a time. Loser is eliminated and winner continues to play opponents from opposing teams until he loses or no more opponents left.
This time around tournament started with Korean Won Sungjin defeating Japanese Murakawa Daisuke, and in the next game losing to Chinese Yang Dingxin. And Yang Dingxin went on a murder spree. He won 7 times in a row eliminating Won Sungjin, Yamashita Keigo, Kim Jiseok, Ichiriki Ryo, Lee Donghoon, Kyo Kagen and Shin Jinseo. Only two opponents were left - Iyama Yuta and Park Junghwan. And in a heroic battle Iyama Yuta managed to stop the Chinese! He defended the honor of Japanese go. And everyone is happy for Japan because it’s kind of an underdog among three Asian countries.
I think they take a break now and in the next year Iyama is going to play Park and whoever wins will try to stop the rest of Chinese.
Nakamura Sumire is going to play Wu Yiming!

love watching that girl play! despite her young age I really enjoy her play style…
Especially any time they get her on video, that girl has a killer stare

I like how connected stones actually connect to each other. Maybe it would help beginners realize how stones connect better?
I like that a LOT—and I imagine it might be best with sort of a “wet” <splat>
sound for unconnected and <splorch>
sound for a connecting move, a bit like in a comic game but very satisfying
Remember Globis-AQZ (Japanese AI) that played against Nakamura Sumire and I think Ichiriki Ryo on abema tv. Today it played a very funny game against Ray. AQZ was destroying the opponent but magic happened after move 290. Look, top-left white’s group is supposed to be dead but woosh!
I guess Japanese AI isn’t yet strong?
