How does one win by a fourth of a stone?

See half counting. In Chinese rules, you can count faster by counting Black’s score and subtracting 3.75 komi.

Thanks for the clarification. I didn’t realize that reporting the half-counting margin was ever done.

I guess as long as it is understood that there is a half-point in the komi, reporting the half-counting margin is unambiguous.

Basic scores like …, W+2.5, W+1.5, W+0.5, B+0.5, B+1.5, B+2.5, …
become …, W+1.25, W+0.75, W+0.25, B+0.25, B+0.75, B+1.25, …

However, if the game is being played with integer komi, reporting the half-counting margin could create ambiguity/confusion:

Basic scores …, W+2, W+1, jigo, B+1, B+2, …
would become …, W+1, W+0.5, jigo, B+0.5, B+1, …

Due to coronavirus outbreak go tournaments are being postponed.

Nongshim Cup should’ve continued in Shanghai on February 17. Now it’s been moved to May, apparently.

Ing Cup that was to be held at Shanghai in April is now postponed until further notice.

Chunlan Cup (第13届春兰杯) may also be delayed but I haven’t found any confirmation.

Qianchao Cup (钱潮杯) is postponed too (https://sports.sina.com.cn/go/2020-01-29/doc-iihnzhha5229472.shtml).

I really love the sets and coverage that is common in Asian Go. I really wish Western Go was popular enough to get such things

Yoda Norimoto 9p (54 years old) was banned for 6 months for criticizing Nihon Kiin on twitter (and google groups?)

Very hard to find information on the event. Here is what I can make from a pair of Asahi articles. This is my translation and my Japanese is not very good, so please take nothing here as certain.

Last May, Yoda Norimoto 9d’s wife, Sashiko Hara 4d, had been dismissed from her position in the board of directors of the Nihon Ki’in for sending emails with misleading information to electors, in her quality of board member.

Following this, Yoda Norimoto sent many tweets criticising the board of directors with accusations of having distorted the truth and holding tea ceremonies for flattering political figures (?*). Allegedly, these accusations made a sponsor withdraw from supporting the Igo Masters cup. On January the 12th, he was suspended 6 months for defaming the Nihon Ki’in and other players.

The next day, he showed up for the first round of the Tengen qualification tournament and was prevented to play by Nihon Ki’in management.

  • I suspect my translation is wrong. Sentence is 権力に媚(こ)びる茶坊主の集まり.

I think they mean “tea ceremonies” with the basic thing offered isn’t tea. I don’t speak Japanese, just guessing.

Also, it’s sad that not even Go is immune to the usual drama. Rich people in influential positions trying to be more rich and influential :frowning:

Oh yeah, that makes sense. If I read it in English I would have understood but when translating my mind wasn’t set on these kind of understatements .

Yesterday Nakamura Sumire played in 27th Agon Kiriyama Cup and lost in 176 moves to Sakaguchi Ryuzo 9p who is 71 yo. A game with 61 year difference.

Sumire has 21 wins and 13 losses so far. Btw, her birthday is 2nd March.

That’s a really impressive win-loss ratio :open_mouth:
