Help buy 13x13 board

Hi y’all.

As a 1 month experience new GO/baduk player. I’m really passionnated about the game and I would like to share that joy with some of my friends and family. I would like to buy a 13-13 board online to introduce people to the game. I got a 19-19 that I bought for 25$ with magnetic stones.

I would like something around a similar budget price, or up to 40$ ( canadian-montreal for shipping).

Any links or ideas?:i did not find much on Amazon.

Thank you

Your best chance would be a double faced goban with 19x19 on one side and 13x13 on the other side.

It may be really difficult to find a 13x13 only goban.

A double faced goban wouldn’t be enough since you also need stones.

Finding a 13x13 board + stones isn’t a problem, but finding one under 40$ may be difficult. On the other hand if you live in Montreal, you may want to visit a go club and ask people?

My portable set is:

  • double sided mat with 19x19 and 13x13
  • melamine stones

It’s very light and cheap.
The melamine stones are nice to touch and lightweight.
The mat can be wrapped, so it’s also convenient for carrying. It looks like fake leather, with one side smoother and the other like chamois.
The grid dimensions are a little bigger than the standard size, especially for 13x13, but that doesn’t bother me at all.
It’s very convenient

But shipping costs to Canada may be more expensive than the board itself. And stones are missing.

True. Not sure if they even ship to outside Europe. At least couldn’t find info on that.

But there is more.

And maybe the Canadian Go Association can help.

Yellow mountain imports is a solid option in north america. Unfortunately, its not quite under $40, but probably close enough that a black friday deal could bring it under:

But +100 to asking your club mates. IME go boards tend to “accumulate” and you may find someone willing to just give you a board!

For the cheapest solution, you can print a paper 13x13 and use it with your current magnetic set.

Canada has lot of wood, and a 13x13 size would be much cheaper as 19x19

If I don’t find anything at my GO club, this would be a fine item price! I could always check with my wife for a christmas gift

There is no woodwork. Buy a piece of the right size, a good pen and a ruler. The result may be even better as one you buy at this price

There is also this, with stones and imitation straw bowls:

Close enough on the price, no clue about shipping where you live though.

I was able to find a magnetic one in my country (Brazil), but the size 13x13 is really hard to find (actually 9x9 too!). I don’t know why but it’s easy to find 15x15 anywhere. After searching the whole Internet where the shipping prices are accessible (Amazon, Aliexpress, …) I finally found it in a famous brazilian marketplace and it would import it from China (it was under U$40 total), so I guess it’s not impossible to find it elsewhere, if the small size (25cm x 25cm) doesn’t bother you. A double sided mat is also easy to find, and convenient as mentioned, if you like the style.

This is because it’s a common size to play gomoku (5 in a row)
