Yes, I’m a big fan of ancient Chinese players, especially Fan Xiping and Shi Ding’an. In particular, their openings are IMO way more interesting than the Japanese openings of the same era.

(Ancient Chinese games had Cross hoshi as a fixed opening pattern)

That’s true. Although, I still have a great affinity for the Kobayashi opening. It was my standard opening for a long time, and served me well. Maybe it is irrational, but I still prefer it over the Chinese openings (although I don’t have anything against them either).
